Guidelines to Follow for Celebrating Halloween 2020 in Massena

Covid-19 has many citizens concerned about safety on Halloween. The New York
State Health Department has issued guidelines and recommendations to ensure the
safety and health of everyone on Halloween.

These can be found at the below link or picked up at the Village Clerks office:
NYS Health Dept.

Safety and Respect should be our theme for Halloween this year.

• If someone chooses not to hand out treats this year, RESPECT their decision.
If you choose to not participate it is recommended that you leave exterior
lights OFF and place a visible sign on your door “No Trick or Treating”.
• All Covid-19 safety protocols should be followed, including social distancing,
small family household groups and the wearing of mask. Wash hands
frequently, and if possible, bring hand sanitizer with you.
• Those handing out treats should avoid personal contact with trick or treaters.
and only give out or pick up commercial wrapped treats.
It is highly recommended that trick or treating be concluded by 7:00PM this year
and that trick or treaters remain in their own neighborhood. This will minimize
exposure for all who intend to participate in traditional Halloween activities.
Also, for those wishing to ensure a safe way to participate in trick or treating, the
Massena Drug Free Community Coalition’s Drive-thru Trunk or Treat, supported by
several community partners, that will be held for the children of our community. The
event will take place on October 31st from 1-3pm in the front circle of Massena High
School. We encourage the community to enjoy this safe way to celebrate Halloween
this year.

Be careful, be respectful and stay safe. Happy Halloween.
