Sandy Cook
WMSA's morning host, Sandy Cook, says becoming a radio announcer
has been his desire since he was three years old. Cook was born in Buffalo, NY. After graduation in 1973, he came to Massena where he began working on the air, part-time on weekends at WMSA. A short time later, he became News Director and copywriter. Upon the retirement of longtime announcer Gene LaPage, Cook became Massena's morning voice and host of "The Extravaganza." Sandy has also been a soccer and basketball coach, and coached the Massena high school basketball team to the Section Ten championship in 1988. He has also broadcast hundreds of sports games on WMSA over the past two decades, including the NCAA Division III championship games of the SUNY Potsdam Bears in 1986. Cook also loves music, leads the Extravaganza Friends Band and often performs and leads the singing at public events. In July 2001, he received the "Massena Rotary Club Service Above Self Award."
In November 2001, Sandy was elected to public office for the first time -- as the new Massena Town Supervisor -- to a four-year term beginning in 2002. Sandy believes, "WMSA has the best listeners in the world. They are great people. I feel fortunate to be doing a job I have always wanted to do."
