Rain showers, warm temps likely today in St. Lawrence County; hot, thunderstorms predicted for Wednesday

A stationary front will set up across the St. Lawrence Valley today with mainly cloudy skies and a few sprinkles during the morning hours, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Highs today will be around 71 with a 30% chance of rain, NWS says. Overnight the low will be around 60.

This front will lift north and east of the region later tonight setting the stage for warmer weather for Wednesday along with chances for showers and a few storms, mainly across Northern New York, forecasters say.

A cold front sweeps through the area on Thursday with additional showers and a few storms, behind which a trend toward drier and slightly cooler conditions occurs by the end of the week, NWS says.

Wednesday

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Southeast wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3am, then showers likely between 3am and 4am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4am. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers between 8am and 5pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 76. Southwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
